Fibrelight Has A Bright Future

Joseph’s Goal Charity Ball Raises £20,000

On 28th March 2015 at the DW Stadium the second Joseph’s Goal Charity Ball raised funds and awareness for Non-ketotic hyperglycinemia (NKH).

With the support and sponsorships of local and international businesses – including Fibrelight Communication Networks – the event had fundraising activities (raffles, auctions), entertainment (headlined by Phoenix Nights’ Archie Kelly) and VIPs/celebrities in attendance, but most significantly it raised £20,000 for NKH.

What is NKH?

NKH is a genetic defect that causes problems in the breaking down of the amino acid glycine.

It is an extremely rare life-limiting genetic disorder that can hinder learning and development, severely limit a person’s everyday activities and cause seizures.

Affecting only one child in every 60,000, NKH is so rare that little research on it has, so far, been done, but Joseph’s Goal wants to change this. For this to happen, it needs funds.

The Joseph’s Goal Charity

Joseph Kendrick was born on 9th May 2000, rapidly deteriorated after birth and was diagnosed with NKH when only 6 days old. Joseph’s Goal (http://www.josephsgoal.org/) was set up by Joseph’s parents, Emma and Paul, and has individual ambassadors from Wigan Athletic, Wigan Rugby, Leeds Rhinos, Wigan Council and the media.

Key to the charity is supporting the work of Dr Johan Van Hove of the University of Colorado, the world’s leading researcher into NKH.

Fibrelight’s Support of Joseph’s Goal and Other Charities

Fibrelight Communication Networks was one of the sponsors of the 2015 Joseph’s Goal Ball and a team from the company attended the evening.

Fibrelight also won the auction for a “Pitch Day Experience”, so two of its staff will play in the Sunday 10th May Community Trust Charity Match at the DW Stadium with other fans and members of the public.

The match is for two charities: Wigan Athletic Community Trust and Wigan Youth Zone.

For more information about these charities visit here and here respectively, but do come along on the 9th May 2015 to offer your support.

And don’t forget to help with NKH research. You can improve these children’s lives and those of future generations simply by donating to Joseph’s Goal (http://www.josephsgoal.org/how-to-donate/) or even by getting involved in fundraising for this charity (http://www.josephsgoal.org/fundraising-2/).
