Fibrelight Has A Bright Future

A Wigan digital company Fibrelight Communications Ltd is planning to double in size after landing a clutch of new business contracts.

Fibrelight Communications Ltd, based in the town’s Investment Centre, is a major player in the public and private sector with more than twenty years in structured cabling installations for everything from small offices to sports stadia and from single homes to housing estates.

Headed by 41 year old founder David Stanier from Winstanley, Fibrelight is now at the forefront of new developments in digital streaming internet and data and telecommunication functions. And the company has landed several lucrative new contracts with major sports retailers which means that MD Mr Stanier could soon be looking for new recruits to double his team from six to 12.

Prestigious communications projects in which the company have played an active role recently include the City of Manchester Etihad stadium, Wigan’s DW Stadium, Old Trafford, the Manchester Velodrome and Manchester agency Growth Solutions with major contracts with the police service, town halls and probation offices, whether for phone installations or data systems.

Mr Stanier said his company prides itself on working to budgets and never compromising on quality and warns folk trying to minimise ongoing costs with IT solutions “on the cheap.”

He added: “Cutbacks and austerity has led to many businesses and organisations using cheap structured cabling which isn’t really fit for purpose.

What they then get is under-performing data networks with the threat of longer term problems. Seemingly cheaper options can result in higher maintenance costs and long term headaches.

Fibre optic solutions needn’t cost the earth and can often actually cost less than copper alternatives but the quality and performance is far superior.

We try to give a cost effective solution from day one that is as future proof as we can make it. People often demand fast broadband as a right and take it for granted which is fine until something goes wrong.”

This includes everything from a single network point to one installation they recently completed in Manchester city centre for an office block with over 1,100 separate users.

Fibrelight has just installed over 1,200 m of underground cabling right through Wigan town centre which allows everyone within a close radius to access wifi and the internet whether shop owners or shoppers looking for the best instant bargain on their smartphones.

The company works closely with the education sector and has installed new interactive screens and whiteboard systems in more than 20 primary schools in the area and is now targeting secondary schools who also want whiteboards, internet access and the “virtual classroom” which enables schools to hook up with other schools abroad.

The firm is also seeing a huge boost in request for video conference facilities with local firms and training rooms and conference centres and also burglar alarms and CCTV installations for both public buildings and domestic premises.

Mr Stanier said: “This is one of the fastest growing sections of our business and the costs have come right down. We can do a complete system installed tested and up and running for less than a £1,000. I predict that within 10 years just about everyone will have access to CCTV for domestic and personal use.”

Mr Stanier learned the hard way about CCTV needs after being burgled at home but has now linked up his house and can check remotely from his mobile phone whether in the UK or abroad on holiday.

“It’s not really watching. It’s about protecting and taking care of the people you love,” he said.
